Salisbury steak is a classic American meal that transforms common ground beef into a warming, flavorful meal. Juicy, seasoned patties of ground beef are seared and served in a delicious gravy, perfect for soaking up mashed potatoes or a side of green beans. This easy, homey recipe takes the fear out of cooking for novice cooks but is a great option for an easy weeknight dinner coming together in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper together and combine well. Form into two oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  3. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside. Working in the same skillet, add the beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  4. In a small bowl, mix your cornstarch with water to create a slurry, stir this into the simmering broth to thicken.
  5. Return the patties to the skillet to coat with sauce, and allow to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
