Gipfeli, Swiss-style croissants, have a buttery and flaky texture. These simple ingredients result in a golden brown pastry that is great for breakfast or a snack. They take about 55 min total so you can enjoy them for a lazy Sunday morning or an adorable treat, fresh from your oven.

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt and instant yeast.
  2. Add the melted butter and warm milk and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough to make a circle of about 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Cut the dough into 8 equal wedges.
  7. Roll from the wide end to the tip of the triangle to make a croissant.
  8. Put the rolled croissants on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops of the croissants with beaten egg for a shiny and golden finish.
  10. Let them rise for another 15 minutes while you preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  11. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
